Is Paul Krause a Purple People Eater?
Paul Krause was, of course, a defensive back for the Minnesota Vikings in their true glory days. Paul Krause still holds the NFL record for career interceptions with an astounding 81. Paul Krause also recovered 19 fumbles during his career, which means he was somehow responsible for an unbelievable 100 turnovers during his playing days.
The real question remains: Is Paul Krause a Purple People Eater? Having not been alive for most of the Vikings’ glory years I have always been a bit confused as to whether the “Purple People Eaters” moniker refers solely to the defensive line or to the entire defense as a whole. What was the common understanding of the term back when they were playing? I suspect there are pros and cons in both positions, but I tend to think that a man responsible for 100 turnovers in the NFL should receive, at the absolute very least, honorary notoriety as a Purple People Eater.
